Idaho LAUNCH is not only helping more students continue their education after high school. It is opening doors for students who have historically been least likely to enroll in college or job training: those with lower GPAs, lower-income students, and male students.
This matters because these students have always had tremendous potential to contribute to Idaho businesses and communities, but affordability and confidence have often stood in the way. LAUNCH is changing that in significant ways.
Students With GPAs Under 2.7
A new path, and a new sense of purpose
Students with lower GPAs have traditionally been among the least likely to pursue education after high school. This year brought a meaningful shift.
• A 19 percent increase in participation year-over-year
• These students represent the largest one-year jump in enrollment among any GPA category
These are students who once assumed higher education was out of reach. They are now preparing for well-paying careers in healthcare, welding, manufacturing, IT, and other high-demand Idaho industries. When young people are given a genuine opportunity to succeed, they do, and Idaho benefits from their success.
Lower-Income Students
Access where it is needed the most
For many Idaho families, the decision to pursue education after high school comes down to affordability. LAUNCH helps ease that burden by covering up to $8,000 of tuition for programs that are tied directly to Idaho job needs.
This is one of the reasons Idaho saw its first meaningful increase in the go-on rate since 2016. An additional 665 students enrolled in Idaho’s public colleges, a three-point gain in one year.
For these families, LAUNCH is more than financial aid. It is the difference between a young adult entering the workforce with limitations or starting a career with real prospects and stability.
Male Students
Reversing a long-standing decline
Male students in Idaho have enrolled in postsecondary education at significantly lower rates than female students for many years. LAUNCH is helping narrow that gap.
• A two-point increase in male enrollment statewide
• Strong male interest in nontraditional, job-ready training options
• Top training fields include construction, transportation, and skilled tradesl
These are practical, high-skill careers that reflect Idaho’s work ethic and values. LAUNCH is resonating with young men who want to work with their hands, learn a skill, and build a future right where they grew up.
What This Means for Idaho
This momentum extends far beyond the classroom. It means businesses can hire locally. It means communities benefit from workers who remain rooted in their hometowns. It means families remain stronger because opportunity exists close to home.
Idaho is proving that its economic success is directly linked to how well it prepares its own citizens to participate in it.
The Takeaway
When barriers are lowered, Idaho students rise. Idaho LAUNCH is helping students who historically have been overlooked or underestimated discover their strengths, pursue in-demand careers, and begin their adult lives with confidence.
This is what it looks like when Idaho keeps its promise to its people: opportunity within reach, and a future that stays close to home.
